FOOTBALL

ABERAERON

A match was played here on Tuesday (which was observed as a general holiday instead of Monday) between the Aberystwyth Mechanics and a scratch team from this town, which resulted in an easy victory for the former. It is only fair to mention that the Aberayron team were placed under several disadvantages, and the result of the game is therefore not at all surprising. The grammar schools had broken up for their Easter holidays, and most of those who were acquainted with the game had left the town, consequently there was no alternative but to get up a scratch team, and those had not played a single game together, and were otherwise entirely out of practice. It was only on Saturday evening that the visitors expressed a desire to play on the following Tuesday on the occasion of their outing. We should add that the Mechanics played exceedingly well, and fully maintained their reputation.
